Top Hacker Peiter Zatko, aka Mudge, is Twitter’s New Head of Security
Twitter that is plagued by serious security breaches is appointing one of the world's best-regarded hackers to tackle everything from engineering missteps to misinformation.
Last week the company named
Peiter Zatko, known by his hacker handle Mudge, to the position of head of security. Zatko will take over the management of key security functions after a 45- to 60-day review.
Zatko admitted he will examine information security, site integrity, physical security, platform integrity as well as engineering.
Before that, the hacker worked at the electronic payments unicorn Stripe and on special projects at Google. His bright career began in the 1990s.
Twitter faces numerous security challenges. One of them happened a year ago when the U.S. government accused two men of spying for Saudi Arabia when they worked at Twitter years earlier, saying that they passed along private information about the kingdom's critics.
Zatko outlined that he was committed to improving public conversations on Twitter. He said he appreciated the social media giant’s openness to unconventional security approaches.
